The German Shepherd is a perfect fit for rural based farm businesses, it is a multi-functional breed that excels in providing valuable and necessary solutions for the following main problem areas of modern day rural endeavors:

Herding and herd protection.

The name does give it away, shepherd, the breed is bred to not only herd livestock but also to protect it.  Wolves are a problem in Europe, wild dogs are a problem in Australia.  The German Shepherd being a territorial animal will mark out it’s territory alerting all other dogs to stay out.  The scent left will deter wild dogs because it provides much information about the dog that left it, the ultimate stay out message.  During times of livestock birthing moving the mothers to a home paddock will provide better protection as any wild dogs will be detected by the ever watchful and alert German Shepherd.

Livestock theft.

The criminals that engage in this activity will have cased out the property before hand, once they realise that the property is protected by a German Shepherd(s) then they will re-evaluate the property in terms of should we run the risk of robbing this property.  Nothing puts the fear of god into criminals quite like a German Shepherd, fact!

Diesel/Equipment theft.

As above once criminals and thieves realise that the property is protected by German Shepherds then your property becomes problematic, best pick on another property.

A criminal would have a heart attack if meeting this guy while committing an offence.
